When Mr. W said that we had to make a journal, the first thing that popped in my head was a fishing journal. I quickly went on google images and searched for fishing clip art and found these photos. I also mirrored 2 fishing rods to cut out. I saved them onto a flash drive and set the laser to the specifications. The mat board was .05 in thick and took about 6 mns each for the front and back. I then used the hole punch and put the holes in for the binding, I twisted the binding through, and finally bent the edges so the binding couldn't slip out. Next I worked on my water bottle. I decided to to with Spongebob because it was my childhood favorite show. I then chose my favorite Spongebob line and got to work in Illustrator. When engraving, I had to pop the rotational jig in and plug it in. Then I had to set the settings to rotational and set the diameter to 2.800". It took about 13 mns to engrave and I had a handy water bottle. Next, I turned my attention to thing verse. I found a super cool dinosaur and saved the files. I matched the file to a template 18" x 32". I then set the thickness to .1" even though the thickness was .25" because the laser kept starting the cardboard on fire. Once all the parts were printed, I put the dino together and it turned out great.

The laser project was the most fun and interesting for me. Since we already learned how to use Illustrator, the most useful thing I learned how to do was how to change the settings in the laser. I learned how each setting affects the laser and how the table moves up and down to focus the light in the correct way to do engrave or cut. I also learned how to use the rotational jig and also how to put it in the laser. The rotational jig was surprisingly easy to pop in and out and was fun to watch the laser engrave with it. All in all, the laser assignment was the most fun because of the useful and fun projects and I learned a lot while in this rotation.
